Gruha Jyothi: Only 55% of applicants may receive 200 units of free electricity

The Congress government is gearing up to launch the Gruha Jyoti scheme, a flagship initiative providing free electricity for up to 200 units. The ongoing beneficiary selection process indicates that approximately only 11 lakh consumers in Hyderabad city are likely to benefit from the Gruha Jyoti scheme. The Center for Good Governance (CGG) has reportedly received and processed the details of these beneficiaries, and they are expected to receive zero bills in the upcoming month of March.

As of now, officials have completed the scrutiny of details for 30 lakh consumers under TSSPDCL, with 11 lakh users identified within the city. It has been observed that only 55 percent of those who applied for the scheme through Praja Palana applications have the possibility of availing free electricity. Making the white ration card mandatory has resulted in the reduction of beneficiaries.

The government received a staggering 19.85 lakh applications in GHMC, Rangareddy, and Medchal districts. Although officials claim the mapping process is 99 percent finished, it has been executed for only 11 lakh applicants, casting doubt on the status of the remaining 8.85 lakh applications.
