Congress govt’s apathy pushes village administration into crisis

Due to negligence from the Congress government, villages are facing severe sanitation issues, with mosquito swarms and seasonal diseases spreading rapidly. The overall governance in the panchayats has deteriorated. Previously, under the BRS rule, the villages were progressing with initiatives such as ‘Palle Pragathi’ but now they are struggling due to a lack of funds.

In response, the government has initiated the ‘Swacchadanam-Pachadanam’ program, set to run from August 5 to August 9. However, panchayat secretaries are grappling with the challenge of executing the program without allocated funds. It was only after the BRS highlighted the villages’ plight that the government took action.

The financial strain on the Gram Panchayats has been exacerbated by the government’s failure to release funds over the past few months. This has left panchayats unable to cover essential expenses, such as diesel for tractors and maintenance costs. Recently, the government released funds following a strike by sanitation workers over unpaid wages. Despite this, no additional funds have been provided for the panchayats.

Panchayat secretaries are questioning the feasibility of implementing the cleanliness and green program without financial support. They are already in debt from previous work and are uncertain where to find new funds.
