The true well-wisher of Telangana and its people is the BRS party, said its working president and minister Mr KT Rama Rao. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, he appealed to people to observe Deeksha Divas on November 29, the day when Mr KCR launched his fast unto death for the cause of a separate Telangana state. It is important to remember the sacrifices of martyrs and incidents of the day.
It was the Congress party that forcibly merged the Telangana state into Andhra Pradesh in 1956 much against the wishes of the Telangana people. When the people agitated in 1968, the then Congress government shot dead 371 people. Again when the second agitation took place in 2001, for a decade from 2004 to 2014, the Congress party that was in power was responsible for suicides by hundreds of youth who killed themselves for the cause of separate Telangana.
“It is important to recall the sacrifices of those who gave up their lives for the cause. Hence I appeal to all the people, particularly my party cadre to organise special memorial meetings on the day,” he said. Mr KTR said the BRS government under the stewardship of Mr KCR has been making rapid strides in all the fields. It focused largely on the welfare of poor people with a lot of measures such as helping the distressed farmers through Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima among others. The pensions cover many sections – old aged, beedi workers, weavers, and lone women among others.
KTR pointed out that as the assembly elections approached, again the same Congress party and its cunning leaders were craving for power in the state. They are brazenly making anti-people statements. “The BRS party appeals to people to keep themselves guarded against the greedy and corrupt leaders and their agenda,” he added.
