BRS effect: Kaleshwaram water reaches Mallanna Sagar

The efforts of the BRS party in releasing Kaleshwaram water have borne fruit, the Congress government has released Godavari water into Mallanna Sagar. Water is being lifted from Ranganayaka Sagar and directed into Mallanna Sagar.

Despite the Godavari river’s waters wastefully flowing into the sea, political malice had previously prevented the release of water from the Kaleshwaram Project. This led farmers, under the leadership of the BRS, to start a movement. BRS Working President KTR and former minister Harish Rao warned that the government was releasing water to the reservoirs under Kaleshwaram.

Recently, Harish Rao wrote a letter to irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, highlighting that the reservoirs in Siddipet district were drying up due to insufficient rainfall and urging the government to fill them using Kaleshwaram water to support the farmers.

In response, the government initiated the process of lifting water from the Ananthagiri reservoir. On Tuesday, two motors were switched on, allowing Godavari waters to flow into Ranganayaka Sagar, Subsequently, water is being pumped from Ranganayaka Sagar to Mallanna Sagar, which was constructed by the previous BRS government with a 50 TMC capacity. It is expected that Godavari waters will reach Kondapochamma Sagar by Thursday night.
