Anganwadi workers hail the BRS government relenting decision to protest

The state government would soon introduce a bridge course in Anganwadi centres and extend life insurance and health coverage to all the workers soon, said Women & Child and Tribal welfare minister Satyavathi Rathod. The Anganwadi teachers, helpers unions CITU, TNGO, AITUC and others who threatened to go on protest held talks with the minister on Friday.

The State government apprised them of its plans for the Anganwadi centre and workers. The government decided to introduce the ‘take home ration’ method during summer vacation and extend life insurance and health coverage to all the teachers and helpers of the centres. It was also decided to pay the salaries on the 14th of every month. The minister also assured the unions that the state government will clear all the pending bills very soon.

Satisfied with the government’s assurances, the unions gave up their decision to launch a protest. Minister Satyavathi Rathod reminded them that international agencies such as UNESCO lauded the effective functioning of the Anganwadi centres in Telangana state. “The teachers and helpers should complement the efforts of the state government to better the lives of the poor and earn more laurels,” she said.
