TSRTC to lease out lands to mobilize funds for free bus travel for women

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has invited tenders to lease out lands in Hyderabad and its outskirts. Four land parcels in Kachiguda, Medchal, Shameerpet, and Hakimpet will go for tenders till January 18. 4.14 acres of open space in Kachiguda, 2.83 acres in Medchal, 3.26 acres in Shameerpet, 2.93 acres in Hakimpet will be open for e-tenders for businesses such as automobile service centres/showrooms, warehouses, and logistics.

The proposed tender is seen as an avenue to mobilize funds for free bus travel for women introduced by the Congress government. Ironically, when the previous BRS government decided to merge the TSRTC into the state government, the Congress Party and other parties accused that the merger was aimed at selling away RTC lands.

Back then, many opposition leaders made a hue and cry over this merger, though it was decided for the welfare of thousands of TSRTC employees. Now, not even one month into the ruling, the Congress government is already eyeing the corporation’s assets.
