The BRS founder and Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has said if the country needs to achieve qualitative change, there should be a government with courage in place. He was addressing the party cadre and general public at Nagpur after inaugurating the permanent and own building of BRS party. The Suresh Bhat auditorium was packed where he unveiled the detailed agenda of his party.
The Maharashtra state is very old with great history and cultural heritage. It is bigger than Telangana and is endowed with all natural resources and perennial rivers. However, scarcity and deprivation haunt the people. They get drinking water once in ten days or a fortnight. The farmers in the state commit suicide due to the inefficiency of the government. “Everywhere USA and European countries give subsidies to agriculture. Without subsidies, one cannot do farming. But in India, the rulers turned a blind eye which is unfortunate,” Mr KCR pointed out.
The BRS is fighting for a quality change – “Parivarthan” in the country in all aspects. Despite possessing abundant water and power, the governments are unable to disburse them to people. Even after 75 years of independence, there are villages and hamlets where people do not get safe drinking water or electricity. This should change and BRS will be an agent of that change. But in Telangana, the government is able to provide safe drinking water and power to every household even in remote areas.
Mr KCR told the gathering that mere change in the government would not help but those who are committed to people’s welfare should be elected. “What is that people are asking for? They are not asking for gold. They just want basic needs such as water and power. What a shame that successive governments failed the people,” Mr KCR said. He favoured the abolition of existing water policy and power policy for betterment.
The people of Maharashtra should know that there was a lot of migration from Telangana. People used to go to far-off places in search of livelihood. After the formation of separate Telangana nine years ago, now people from 14 states are coming to Telangana for work. “That is the change we brought to the state. It is possible even in Maharashtra and elsewhere in the country,” Mr KCR opined.
The BRS will contest every election in Maharashtra from now. It is too early to talk about any political alliance. The BRS will focus next on Madhya Pradesh where the people are asking him to set up party offices and visit them frequently. Later he addressed a press conference where he patiently handled a volley of questions from the local media persons.
