Setting a new record in the history of the medical and health department of Telangana state, the government hospitals registered a total of 76.3% deliveries of the total that took place in the state. This speaks volumes about the efforts of the government in encouraging institutional deliveries, prevention of infant and female mortality rates and strength of the government medical infrastructure among other parameters.
The government hospitals accounted for only 30 per cent of deliveries in 2014 when the Telangana state was formed the year. The vision and commitment of the CM Mr KCR have ensured massive improvement in strengthening the hospitals besides launching a plethora of incentives for the people to draw them towards the government hospitals.
The facts and figures came up for the discussions during a teleconference of Health Minister Mr T Harish Rao with the District Medical and Health Officers across the state. The Central government has acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the Telangana government. It has ranked the Telangana government’s medical department third in the country.
The top five districts that put up an impressive record are; Medak with 84.4 per cent of deliveries, Jogulamba (83.9 per cent), Vikarabad (81 per cent), Mulugu (79 per cent) and Nagarkurnool (77 per cent). There were times when the people refused to go to government hospitals as they had lost faith in them. The decrepit infrastructure and poor, inefficient and indifferent staff thoroughly discouraged people for decades from availing of free medicare in government hospitals. Things have changed and changed for the better under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr KCR.
