“We want Rythu Bandhu scheme of Telangana government, we want Rythu Beema. The state government should procure all the farm produce at MSP,” these are the slogans raised by the farmers in Tamil Nadu state. Commemorating Farmers Day, scores of farmers in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu took out a massive rally. They accused the BJP government of letting down the farmers. Not a single promise was delivered. Farmers’ income did not increase as promised.
In contrast, the Telangana government had put in place the necessary infrastructure for farmers, giving free power supply, and input assistance by way of Rythu Bandhu. It is also implementing Rythu Beema. The BRS government is also procuring the entire farm produce at Minimum Support Price much to the relief of farmers. “When it is possible in Telangana state of South India, why not in Tamil Nadu,” posed South India Farmers Federation president Kotapati Narasimha Naidu. He called upon the farmers to support the BRS party which came out with the slogan “Abki baar Kisan sarkar” by voting for the party in the ensuing elections.
Tamil Nadu Vyavasaya Sangham president K M Rama Gounder and Karnataka Farmers Associations president Kuruburu Shanta Kumar and others echoed similar feelings.
