The Telangana Government is understood to have decided to treat the 42-day strike period, from September 13 to October 24 in 2011, by State Government employees of Telangana origin as part of their ‘Sakala Janula Samme’ taken up in support of the demand for statehood to the region as “casual leave”.
According to sources, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has signed the file concerned and orders (GO) are likely to be issued in a day or two.
The then combined Andhra Pradesh Government did not pay salary to the employees for the strike period treating it as “absent from duties”.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), now ruling Telangana State, has promised during the run up to the 2014 elections to treat the “historic strike” period as casual leave. The decision would mean that the employees would get salary for the strike period, provided they have sufficient days of leave.
