Poverty in Telangana down by 7.3%: CM KCR

The BRS party which began its journey in the separate Telangana state ever since its formation nine years ago tackled poverty successfully. Through its slogan of create prosperity – distribute it to people, the government had taken up a series of measures in reducing poverty, said Chief Minister Mr K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Addressing the Independence day celebrations at Golconda Fort, he said in 2015-16 the poverty in Telangana was 13.18 per cent which came down to 5.88 per cent by 2019-2020. The government adopted the inclusive, integrated and balanced model of the development plan. It focused on the improvement of infrastructure and welfare simultaneously. The measures helped better the lot of weaker sections, farmers, poor among forward caste communities and every section of society. Every single family is benefitting from one or the other welfare measures of the state government.

The delegation of power empowered the rural poor on all fronts including decision-making. All the hamlets were upgraded into Gram Panchayats and adequate funds were devolved which resulted in a new confidence among the people living in remote corners of the state. “Today we are celebrating independence day. We pay rich tributes to those who have sacrificed their lives in the freedom movement,” CM KCR said.

CM said despite decades of independence, the country did not witness the development it ought to. People’s expectations were not fulfilled. The successive government failed to make optimum utilisation of the natural resources and lacked vision. As a result, people feel let down and are unhappy with the dispensation at the Centre. The BRS government in Telangana is committed to the all-around development of people and wishes to extend to the whole of the country, he said.

The 77th Indian independence day was celebrated with much fervour and patriotism across the state. The ministers, chief whips of Assembly and Council and other important functionaries of the government oversaw the celebrations in the districts. IT minister Mr KT Rama Rao hoisted the national flag at Rajanna Sircilla district where he listed out the development achieved by the state in the last nine years.

Panchayat Raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao hoisted the national flag at Jangaon district. MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy took part in the celebrations at Bhupalpally district, Chief whip D Vinay Bhaskar attend the celebrations at Hanamkonda district while Legislative Council deputy chairman Banda Prakash hoisted national flag at Warangal district.
