Podu land pattas: A festive day for tribals in Telangana

After decades of struggle for rights on the lands being cultivated by them for years, the tribals in Telangana state are realising their dream now, thanks to CM KCR. A total of 1,51,146 tribals are getting rights over the 4,06,369 acres of podu land. CM and other ministers would be disributing the podu land pattas today.

Since pre-independence days, the tribals have been demanding rights over the forest land they have been cultivating for generations. However, the successive governments have kept them at bay in the name of the conservation of forests often violently suppressing their agitations. The tribals have been on the receiving end and several of them were killed and thousands displaced from their habitations by the forest and police department personnel using brute force.

For the first time, after the formation of Telangana, CM KCR sat down to listen to the plight of the tribals in detail for the first time. Having learnt the intricacies of the issue, he decided to do justice to tribals as the separate Telangana is meat for justice to all sections. He ordered the officials to constitute habitation-level and district-level committees and identify the genuine beneficiaries. CM KCR will give away podu land pattas to tribals in Asifabad district. He would also inaugurate the Integrated District Office Complex and District Police Office.
