NIMS set a record by performing 100 kidney transplantations in 8 months

Vouching for the fact that the health care system in the government sector has been strengthened and made more affordable, the NIMS has performed 100 kidney transplantations in two months worth Rs. 15 crore. The transplantations were done for free ensuring life lifelong free supply of medicines to the beneficiaries. During the past nine years, the Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) performed over 1,000 kidney transplantations.

Expressing happiness at the record, Health Minister T Harish Rao lauded the staff of NIMS for their dedication. NIMS Urology department head Dr Rahul Devaraju said it was a record in the country where so many kidney transplantations were done at a single centre. “On average, one kidney transplantation was done every three days,” he said. He further said the CM relief fund being given to the patients made it all possible. Since the formation of Telangana state, over 1,000 kidney transplantations have been done at NIMS alone.

The doctors said daily they were performing 800 to 900 urology procedures, performing transplantations and offering other services simultaneously. Since 1989, the NIMS has performed 1600 kidney transplantations. Minister Mr T Harish Rao said nothing speaks better than this. The services at all the government hospitals have been significantly improved and public trust in the government restored.

From being scared away from government hospitals now people prefer only government hospitals, the things improved a lot. This was all made possible with the visionary CM Mr KCR focussing more on extending free medical care to the poor and needy.
