The Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) director Nagari Beerappa said they are offering quality free medical services to the poor on par with AIMS and even much more. The newly appointed director Dr Beerappa in an interview said the NIMS with the support from state government has been helping the patients have a second life. The situation before 2014 was completely different as the institute got meagre funds and without any vision for development or upgradation. Now after the formation of Telangana, there is no dearth of flow of funds.
Before the Telangana formation, there were just 900 beds later rose to 1,500 beds. Now Out Patient wing deals with 3,500 patients. There were only 11,956 surgeries done in the past. Now as many as 24,945 surgeries are being performed per year. There were no beds readily available then. Now there are three to four beds readily available at any time. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao focuses more on NIMS development and his recent initiative to build Dashabdi block will add another 2,500 beds taking the total to 4,000 beds – the highest in any hospital in the country. They will comprise 500 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, 1,200 oxygen beds and 300 special rooms. The block will also have 42 modular operation theatres which means zero bacteria enabling surgeries without any infection.
Mr Beerappa said every wing will have an organ transplant facility and medial and surgical department. He said his vision and determination was to take the NIMS to the next level where patients from not only the different parts of the country but from foreign countries come to NIMS for medical services.
