Lifting of water begins at the Kaleshwaram Project

Following Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s instructions, the officials began pumping water from the mighty Kaleshwaram Lift irrigation project. The officials switched on four motors and pumped eight cusecs of water to Mid Manair and SRSP. The flood level is rising with water from the Pranahita River. Massive exercise is underway to fill all the water bodies – reservoirs and tanks.

Engineer-in-chief Mr Venkateswarlu oversaw the operation at the Kaleshwaram Project. The officials switched on six pumps at Link-1 Laxmi Pump House to lift 13,200 cusecs of water into Saraswathi Barrage. From link-2, four pumps were activated that are lifting 11.720 cusecs lifting water into the Parvathi barrage and from there 10,440 cusecs of water is being pumped into the Yellampalli project. From there, water is pumped into SRSP and Rajarajeswara reservoir.

Though the Godavari lacked inflows, river Pranahita is found to be on spate. It was observed that about 6,500 cusecs of water reached Laxmi Barrage during the past two days. The water level is steadily growing in the Pranahita River. The officials expect that all the barrages reach their full capacity within a week much to the relief of the government and the people.
