Extending an insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh to 25,000 weavers and powerloom workers in Siricilla the powerloom hub of Telangana, Panchayat Raj minister KT Rama Rao, announced payment of the annual premium amount for all beneficiaries in Siricilla under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana(PMSBY) here Wednesday.
“The minister has decided to give a Raksha Badhan gift to the distressed weavers by giving them a new lease of life,” a press release from the minister’s office said.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, beneficiaries would get an accident cover and a permanent disability cover of Rs 2 lakh each. Persons suffers partial disability would get Rs 1 lakh. The scheme would benefit 25,000 workers employed in the textile industry in Siricilla, the release added.
The process of identifying beneficiaries is underway and so far nearly 20,000 workers have been listed. Workers aged between 18 and 70 years are eligible for the insurance cover.
Efforts are on to open bank accounts for the beneficiaries. The minister has instructed bankers to enrol all beneficiaries under the scheme by Raksha Badhan festival.
