KCR Visits China’s Suzhou Industrial Park

Chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao got another positive response in China with respect to investments in Telangana.

Rao, as part of his China tour, had an interaction with Yogesh Wagh, director of China-based Anju Infrastructure and explained the the salient features of the state’s industrial policy to him. Yogesh evinced keen interest to invest in Telangana. Rao invited him to visit Telangana and Yogesh responded positively.

Rao and his delegation were in Shanghai and Beijing on Friday.

Before leaving Shanghai for Beijing, industries minister Jupally Krishna Rao and education minister G Jagadish Reddy visited Suzhou Industrial Park in Suzhou, a city known as ‘paradise on earth’.

Yu Cai Zen, a member of China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Committee, briefed the visitors about the development of the park in which about seven lakh employees were working.

The Telangana ministers appreciated the development there and explained to the   Suzhou Industrial Park Committee members about the state’s industrial policy. They sought the Chinese cooperation in developing such industrial parks in Telangana.

Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), spread over 288 sq km, is an important economic cooperation project between the Chinese and Singapore governments. Of that area, 80 sq km area belongs to China-Singapore Cooperative Zone. It is a pilot zone of reform and successful model of international cooperation.

It is one of China’s fastest-growing development zones with the most international competitive edges. It has been ranking the first for years among China’s development zones in using foreign capital.

As China’s modernisation drive gained momentum in the late 1980s, many Chinese delegations visited Singapore to learn modern management methods while Singapore  planned economic regionalisation focusing on overseas investments. Both governments decided to join hands in developing a modern industrial park in the east of Suzhou. The China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (CS-SIP) was born in 1994.

Indian ambassador to Beijing Ashok K Kantha hosted dinner for Rao and his team on Friday evening.
