Gudem and Modikunta projects get clearance from centre

The Technical Advisory Committee of the Union water resource ministry accorded clearances to the Gudem and Modikunta lift irrigation projects taken up on river Godavari by the Telangana state government. The Telangana engineers were elated at the development. A team led by Telangana irrigation department principal secretary Rajath Kumar, engineers in chief Muralidhar and Hariram, CM OSD Sridharrao Deshpande, Adilabad and Mulugu chief engineers Srinivas and Bhaskar attended the meeting with union water resource ministry secretary Pankaj Kumar.

Earlier, the state government submitted six DPRs (Detailed Project Reports). Recently, it also submitted the DPRs for Sithammasagar and Wardha projects. Of the total eight projects, clearances were given for Chinna Kaleshwaram, Chanaka Korata and Choutupalli Hanmantha Reddy lift irrigation projects. Now Gudem and Modikunta projects also got the clearance from centre.

The central government delayed giving clearances to the project though there were no objections from any quarter. However, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao took it prestigiously and motivated officials to pursue the matter relentlessly. The clearances for three more projects are expected to be given shortly.
