Develop Marketing Skills, KTR Tells Students

The first edition of Innofest organised by iSpirit proved to be an instant hit as more than 1,000 people attended the event. IT minister K T Rama Rao inaugurated the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that innovation is mother of entrepreneurship and asked the aspiring students to cultivate the ability of marketing their product.

“While we Indians have the ability to innovate, we lack marketing skills. I don’t think that there is any better nation in the world than the US, which can market or sell their ideas.

They really can talk their way through and create a value out of nothing. We need to cultivate this habit and improve our marketing skills. Not just innovate, talk about it and market your product,” the minister said.

He said that 3Is is the mantra to survive in the current scenario. “We have seen several events which transferred the world, the mantra then was 3D – define, design, deliver and now 3I mantra matters more – Innovate, Incubate, and Incorporate and I think this 3Is would benefit the fourth ‘I’, that is India. Indians will have a great future and all of us need to think big to make it possible,” Rao said.

Delivering the keynote address, Mohandas Pai, Angel Investor & Ex-Infosys board member spoke about ‘Disruption’ and how it is changing our lives. “Invention of the steam engine 200 years ago caused the biggest disruption in our lives, Suddenly we had the capacity to harness the power of the steam engine.

What 100 people used to do with their muscle power was done by a single machine and this gave us speed and momentum. And now, Internet is going to be the biggest disruption happening to us. Seven billion people living together will soon be connected with each other and the whole system we are following, be it banking, education or any other field will change drastically.”

Innofest was a unique event organized to celebrate Innovation. It has provided a platform to many unsung heroes and uncovered their innovations. The event also has sessions on various contemporary technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) and quad copters. Hyderabad is the second city to host Innofest after Bengaluru.
