Congress party’s white paper ploy backfired

Congress government’s attempt to corner the previous government by releasing a series of white papers has completely backfired. The entire exercise turned out to be a futile one as the opposition parties took advantage of the errors in the white papers.

The legislators of BRS and AIMIM have exposed the mismatch of figures in the white papers and pointed out how the Congress party selectively reported numbers to tarnish the image of Telangana. The state government released two white papers, one on state finances and the other one on the power sector. They had contemplated releasing some more white papers on sectors such as irrigation. However, as the opposition mounted a strong attack in the Assembly, they backed out, and adjourned the house sine die.

The first session of the new legislative assembly also highlighted the lack of coordination among ministers and ruling party MLAs.. The treasury bench members were clueless to the questions posed by senior legislators Akbaruddin Owaisi, Harish Rao, KT Rama Rao, and Jagadish Reddy. Soon, the Congress party realized that the white paper strategy was yielding no results

The developments in the house and the pressure from the high command forced the Revanth Reddy-led government to abandon the plans of presenting more white papers.
