The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India’s latest revenue expenditure report has exposed the Congress party’s exaggerated claims about Telangana’s finances. According to the CAG’s findings, the revenue spent on interest payments from December 2023 till now stands at Rs. 21,838 crore, sharply contradicting the Congress’ claims of Rs. 80,000 crore.
The Congress party appears to have inflated the numbers by nearly four times to mislead the public. This deliberate misrepresentation is being labeled as an attempt to tarnish the legacy of KCR’s governance and deceive the people of Telangana.
The CAG report reveals the state’s revenue expenditure trends in detail. The expenditure on interest payments for October 2024, for instance, was only Rs. 1,965.22 crore. The progressive total since April 2024 stands at Rs. 15,152.63 crore. In contrast, the Congress party has been projecting unfounded figures of Rs. 80,000 crore to stoke unnecessary fears of financial mismanagement.
Critics are accusing the Congress party of resorting to propaganda regarding interest payments to deflect public anger over its failure to deliver on the six guarantees and the 420 promises made during its election campaign.
