Blue Revolution in Telangana: Fish production takes giant leap

The fish production in Telangana state which was worth Rs. 2,252.20 crore in 2016-2017 has increased to Rs. 31,822.31 crore in 2022-2023. It was all made possible by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s determination to empower economically the fishermen community in the state. The state government distributed free fish and prawn seeds worth Rs. 413.66 crore. Telangana is the only state in the country to spend so much for the welfare of the fishing community.

The free distribution of fish seed produced 22.5 lakh tonnes of fish which is worth Rs. 32,000 crore. The income was distributed among the fishermen societies in the state. Thus now the fishermen became prosperous with the intervention of the ruling BRS government. The initiative was launched in 2016-2017 releasing fish seed in 3,939 water bodies and in 23,748 water bodies in 2022-2023. The fish production tripled in the last seven years – a notable development in the sector and welfare of the fishermen community.
