87,888 2BHK houses ready for distribution to beneficiaries

The state government is bracing up to distribute as many as 87,888 double-bedroom houses among the beneficiaries across the state. There are over 75,000 houses under the GHMC limits and the rest are in small towns and villages in the state. Of the total number of 1.65 lakh houses sanctioned, 1.22 lakh were completed and over 34,000 houses were already handed over to the beneficiaries. Officials are making arrangements to hand over the rest.

For the first time, the Telangana government had taken up the construction of double-bedroom houses with 100 per cent subsidy in the country. Under the programme, whole townships came up in several constituencies. Including all the basic amenities like drains, drinking water, and roads among others, the state government spent Rs. 6,29,000 on each house in urban areas and Rs. 7,75,000 to Rs. 8,65,000 on each house in GHMC limits.

The free houses will be distributed as per reservations made at the rate of 50 per cent for SC and STs in rural areas and seven per cent to minorities while 17 per cent to SCs, six per cent to STs and 12 per cent to minorities in urban areas.
