Yadadri Thermal Power Station: A symbol of Telangana’s progress achieved under BRS government

The completion of the monumental Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) project in Nalgonda district stands as a testament to the visionary leadership of former KCR, whose tireless efforts have paved the way for Telangana’s energy transformation. The commissioning of YTPS marks a significant milestone in Telangana’s energy sector.

With a total installed capacity of 4,000 MW, comprising five units of 800 MW each, YTPS is now the largest thermal power plant operated by a state government in the history of independent India. The construction of YTPS was awarded to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) by the previous BRS government in a landmark deal worth approximately Rs. 20,400 crore. This contract is being hailed as the largest order ever given to a public sector undertaking in India’s power sector.

The YTPS is a key part of KCR’s vision to overhaul Telangana’s power supply system, transitioning it from a state plagued by frequent power cuts and power holidays to one that enjoyed 24-hour uninterrupted electricity across all sectors during the KCR rule.

This achievement is all the more remarkable when one considers that in 2014, Telangana’s installed power capacity stood at just 7,778 MW. Under KCR’s leadership, this figure has nearly tripled, with the state’s installed capacity now approaching 20,000 MW. This remarkable progress in energy production and distribution is hailed as an unparalleled success story in India’s power sector.

KCR’s leadership in making this transformation possible has been crucial, as his relentless focus on development and infrastructure has set a new benchmark for the country. The YTPS serves as a reminder of the progress made under the BRS government and the unwavering commitment to meeting the growing energy demands of the people.

With the commissioning of YTPS, Telangana is now poised to become a model state in energy generation and distribution.
