Telangana state has secured yet another top position. This time in the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen scheme. The state has topped in sanitation with 100% Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF+) villages. According to the latest report of the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, all the villages in the state are declared open defecation free and Telangana received this recognition for its excellent performance in maintaining sanitation in villages.

To make India open defecation free, the central government brought in the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen scheme in 2014 and so far 50% of villages in the country have received the status of Open Defecation Free Plus. A village is declared ODF+ if there is an efficient implementation of dry and wet waste management and every house in the village has a toilet.

The programs of the state government such as Palle Pragathi are yielding results and Telangana is standing as a role model to the nation in maintaining sanitation and hygiene.
