BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) has strongly criticised the Congress party for running a campaign filled with false claims that Telangana is bankrupt. He emphasized that the state continues to lead the country in financial, debt, and resource management, with data published in Economic and Political Weekly serving as solid proof of Telangana’s strong governance.
According to KTR, these figures stand as undeniable testimonials of the former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) effective governance. He pointed out that Congress, unable to fulfill its six guarantees and other promises, has resorted to spreading false rhetoric that undermines the interests of the state. Despite these efforts to mislead the public, KTR expressed his confidence that the truth will eventually prevail. He called on Congress leaders to apologize to the people for their false claims.
KTR countered Congress’ allegations that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had taken on unsustainable debt, calling these claims baseless. He pointed to the Financial Management, Debt Management, and Resource Management indexes published in Economic and Political Weekly, which position Telangana at the top in economic management from 2014-15 to 2022-23. Telangana ranks second in both the Debt Management Index and the Resource Management Index.
Sharing these statistics on X, KTR stated that they are clear evidence of the disciplined financial management under KCR’s leadership. He dismissed Congress’ narrative as an attempt to distract from their failure to implement the promises they made. KTR emphasised that Congress was using false claims about debt to cover up their own shortcomings.
KTR accused Congress of spreading false propaganda, targeting KCR’s achievements and conspiring to tarnish the image of Telangana, a state that has excelled in multiple sectors over the past decade. According to KTR, the Congress campaign suggesting Telangana is burdened with huge debts and heading towards bankruptcy is completely fabricated.
He stated that Telangana is financially stable, and it is Congress that is bankrupt. KTR warned that this misleading propaganda is harmful to the state’s interests, but asserted that the people would not be swayed by these lies. “Covering the truth with lies will not change reality,” he remarked.
KTR noted that this is not the first time Congress, along with the BJP, has tried to distort Telangana’s economic reality. He highlighted how these false campaigns have been repeatedly debunked using clear calculations and official data. Reports from institutions like the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), and the Prime Minister’s Economic Council, along with independent economists, have all confirmed Telangana’s economic strength.
Despite this, KTR expressed disappointment that Congress continues to push its false narrative. He pointed out that even in Congress’ own socio-economic reports, the significant economic growth of Telangana has been conveniently ignored. However, KTR remained steadfast, stating that the truth would eventually come out on top.
KTR reminded the public that Telangana has consistently been one of the top states in the country in generating its own revenue. He credited the state’s self-sufficiency and financial discipline for its ability to stand on its own feet, without exceeding the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limits on debt.
Telangana, which has one of the lowest debt-to-GSDP ratios in the country, has unfairly been targeted with false propaganda, KTR said. He explained that the debts incurred by the BRS government were long-term, and that the burden of interest payments is minimal. He further noted that Telangana is among the states with the lowest percentage of interest payments in relation to revenue expenditure, and that the loans taken by KCR were primarily for capital expenditure aimed at building wealth and assets for the state.
KTR proudly asserted that Telangana has become an unstoppable economic force under KCR’s decade-long leadership. He marvelled at how the newly formed state has outperformed larger, well-established states, becoming one of the five states contributing significantly to the national economy.
KTR emphasized that Telangana now leads in key areas such as Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), own tax revenue, per capita income, electricity consumption, and agricultural production. He attributed the state’s top position in the Financial Management Index to KCR’s exceptional governance.
He called on Congress leaders to apologize to the people for their false campaigns, which he said are attempting to destroy the economic system KCR worked so hard to build with reckless policies. KTR concluded by reaffirming his belief that the truth would prevail, despite Congress’ ongoing attempts to mislead the public.
