Suicides by daily wage workers more in BJP rule

Statistics released by the Centre reveal that suicides of daily wage workers are high in the country. Union Labor Minister Bhupender Yadav said in the Lok Sabha that 1.12 lakh daily wage workers committed suicide in the three-year period between 2019-21.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 66,912 housewives, 53,661 self-employed people, 43,420 employees and 43,385 unemployed people committed suicide during this three-year period. Also 35,950 students and 31,389 agricultural labourers were also involved in forced deaths.

The BJP failed to come up with any welfare scheme for those in unorganised sectors, farmers in large numbers and daily wage workers. It did roll out a single scheme for the poor and needy in the country but only favoured corporate companies that looted the banks.

In contrast the BRS government in Telangana has introduced insurance scheme to many sections and launched plethora of welfare schemes covering every section of the society.
