Restoration Work on 3,652 Tanks Begins

The state government so far gave administrative sanction for restoration of 7,571 tanks under Mission Kakatiya programme. The restoration work of 3,652 tanks has started, irrigation minister T Harish Rao said at a video conference held officials on the progress of Mission Kakatiya at the Secretariat here on Tuesday.

So far, 74,83,581 cubic metres of mud was unerthed and farmers diverted it to their fields, officials informed Harish Rao.

The minister directed the officials to complete the work before the rainy season begins. The minister directed the officials to be in touch with those who adopted the tanks and see that they participate in the restoration of tanks.

Before diverting the mud or soil from the tank to fields, soil testing should be conducted, the officials said. The minister also permitted the officials to hire a vehicle for each irrigation sub-division to monitor the progress of the works in remote villages. The details of irrigation tanks should be uploaded on the website of Mission Kakatiya, Harish Rao said adding that Ranga Reddy district was lagging behind and directed the officials to speed up the works.
