In view of the reported spread of Pink Eye or Yellow Eye problems, Health Minister T Harish Rao appealed to people to not panic. He said pink eye is a contagious disease but not dangerous. Eye ointments and eye drops were made available at all community health centres and Basthi Dawakhanas. The symptoms of pink or yellow eye include – eyes turning red, irritation, swelling and watery.
The basic thing required to prevent the problem is to maintain personal hygiene. One should discard the used towels, kerchiefs, pillows and beds to stop the spread of infection. One should prevent rubbing the eyes and keep their hands always washed and cleaned. They should avoid moving in gatherings and public places to prevent the spread of pink or yellow eye.
“The Medical & Health department of Telangana state is on alert mode on seasonal diseases. People should not be alarmed,” Mr Harish Rao said. The state government besides increasing the working hours of certain hospitals has decided to conduct awareness camps through field-level staff. The medical department staff will also be visiting the social welfare schools to check on children there and distribute medicines.
