Osmania University ranked 7th in the nationwide ranking of universities done by noted media house India Today, for the year 2013. Osmania has been consistently ranked as one of the top universities in India for several years now.

The Hyderabad Central University (HCU) stood at 6th position. At a South India level, the Hyderabad Central University stands 1st, and Osmania University stands at 2nd place.
Osmania was established in year 1908 by the 7th Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan. The university has contributed immensely to the academic, social, and economic development of the region and the nation.
Apart from excelling in academics, the university students have always played an active role in peoples’ movements – be it the Vandemataram movement or the ongoing Telangana statehood struggle.
The university’s alumni include several noted figures like PV Narasimha Rao, Shivaraj Patil, Jaipal Reddy, Harsha Bhogle, Y Venugopal Reddy (RBI Governor), and Prof G. Ram Reddy
