The Left parties – Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI (M) in Telangana are making desperate attempts to get some seats from the Congress party. The parties that ditched the ruling BRS party by entertaining the Congress in Delhi are crying foul. They accuse Mr KCR of not keeping his promise of having an alliance in the ensuing Assembly elections. But they did not give him any hope and it is they who ditched the friendly spirit. Both parties are reportedly asking for at least 10 Assembly seats from the Congress party.
The Congress leaders from Delhi were not only taken aback at their demand but also laughed at their claims of a mass base in Telangana state. The Left parties are offered only two seats each. When CPI secretary K Narayana met the Congress leader KC Venu Gopal, he was reportedly told that the Congress cannot give more than two seats each to the two Left parties. The TPCC had to accommodate the loyalists, those who joined recently and also contests that are very strong which are being asked for by the Left parties.
Hanging their heads in shame, the leaders of Left parties held a closed-door meeting on Thursday and had been holding hectic parleys. They have been demanding more seats in Nalgonda, Khammam, Adilabad, Karimnagar and elsewhere where they have already lost their relevance. They do not have any more presence at many places but they were only dreaming that they are still strong in the select districts.
Had they been with the BRS chief Mr KCR, they would have at least preserved their self-respect rather than hanging at the doors of the Congress leaders.
