Telangana has emerged as an agricultural powerhouse, showcasing remarkable achievements over the past nine and a half years under the leadership of former CM KCR. The latest statistics from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) highlight the transformative progress made in the agriculture and irrigation sectors, emphasizing the monumental efforts of the BRS government.
Telangana’s irrigation facilities have witnessed an unprecedented expansion. The area irrigated for two crops surged from 78.18 lakh acres in 2013-14 to an astounding 1.60 crore acres by 2022-23. This growth underscores the success of flagship projects like Mission Kakatiya and the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.
In tandem with enhanced irrigation, the state has also seen a significant increase in crop cultivation. From 1.55 crore acres in 2013-14, the area under two-crop cultivation expanded to 2.29 crore acres, marking a new high in agricultural productivity. Telangana has doubled its food grain production over the past decade. The state produced 2.25 crore tonnes in 2013-14, which soared to an estimated 5 crore tonnes by 2023-24, demonstrating the efficacy of policies aimed at boosting agricultural output.
A cornerstone of Telangana’s agricultural success has been the uninterrupted 24-hour power supply, a promise kept by the BRS government. This has empowered farmers to maximize productivity and reduce dependency on erratic power schedules. Also, Initiatives like Rythu Bandhu, offering direct financial support to farmers, have further strengthened Telangana’s agrarian economy. Combined with infrastructural advances and innovative irrigation projects, these policies have positioned the state as a leader in agricultural development.
The achievements of Telangana’s agricultural sector are a testament to the vision and leadership of KCR. His commitment to empowering farmers and enhancing agricultural infrastructure has left an indelible mark on the state’s progress.
