The stray dog menace has been a matter of great concern in Telangana. Recent incidents have resulted in 14 injuries and the death of an 82-year-old woman. These events have prompted a strong response from the High Court.
On Friday, the High Court directed the state government and GHMC officials to consult with representatives from animal welfare organizations and veterinarians to develop and enforce strict measures to control the stray dog population. The court emphasized that mere meetings and suggestions are insufficient; comprehensive action is necessary.
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Srinivasa Rao ordered that vehicles be available 24/7 to capture stray dogs. Additionally, a helpline for bite victims and an app for lodging complaints should be established.
The inquiry into the recent deaths of a student in Bagh Amberpet and the son of a laborer in Patancheru, as well as a public interest litigation regarding the feeding of stray dogs or their attacks on people, has been adjourned to September 2.
