Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao took strong objection to the remarks made by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on the Osmania Hospital on her Twitter handle. The Governor referring to the dilapidated Osmania Hospital building opined that the state government should take the initiative and construct a new building. Mr Harish Rao said it was CM KCR who first took note of the Osmania Hospital building on the verge of collapse. He mooted the idea of demolishing it to construct it anew. It was pending due to litigation in the Court of Law.
“The Governor is pretty much aware that a case is pending in the court. But just to point a finger at the BRS government and damage its image, she went making uncharitable remarks,” Mr Harish Rao said. Holding a Constitutional post, it was not proper to indulge in politics. It is not good to act as a BJP agent. Instead, the Governor should advise the state government on improving its functioning.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao first visited the Osmania Hospital in 2015 inspecting the pathetic conditions prevailing there. He immediately sanctioned Rs. 2,000 crore to replace the old buildings. But a section of people in the name of preserving the Heritage structure moved the Court. It was pending since then.
The State government constituted a committee of engineers who certified that the structure was obsolete and not fit for use anymore. Later, the government also constituted another committee involving experts from Archeology who also clarified that the building was unfit for use as a hospital. “The Governor is well aware of all these developments. Sad that she is resorting to mudslinging against the democratically elected BRS government She is unable to see the good work but striving to find out loopholes,” Mr Harish Rao lamented.
