Due to the Congress government’s apathy, the Central Water Commission (CWC) has rejected the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of three major irrigation projects in Telangana. The rejected DPRs pertain to the Dr. BR Ambedkar Wardha Scheme, Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, and the Kaleshwaram 3rd TMC works.
The CWC has cited multiple reasons for this decision, including incomplete submissions and unresolved issues. For the Dr. BR Ambedkar Wardha Scheme, the CWC has demanded an inter-state agreement, details on potential flooding, the usage of existing structures from the Pranahita Chevella project, and information on the ayacut area.
Similarly, it has raised several technical and operational concerns regarding the Kaleshwaram 3rd TMC works. The Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme was rejected due to an ongoing legal dispute over water usage.
The CWC noted that this matter must be resolved before further approval can be considered. The Commission has highlighted the Congress government’s failure to provide crucial details despite repeated requests.
It stated in its letter that the lack of compliance with these requests has left it with no choice but to reject the DPRs. This rejection is likely to impact the state’s irrigation projects significantly.
