Create Telangana With Hyderabad as Its Capital: AB Bardhan

[PTI] Hyderabad: Accusing the UPA government of complicating the Telangana issue, the CPI on Wednesday demanded that the Centre end the dispute by accepting the demand of separate Telangana with Hyderabad as its capital.

“If anyone has complicated it, it is the UPA government, the government of Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram. What they say, does it have any value? They announced one night that they are giving Telangana. Next day they dismissed it,” CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said.

He was addressing a public meeting organised here by the party in support of separate Telangana.

The Srikrishna Committee was appointed to suggest a way to resolve the issue, but it made the matter more complex by proposing six options, he said.

Bardhan also criticised the Committee for suggesting ways to “purchase people and manage”.

Though the CPI had once fought for ‘Visalandhra’ (united Andhra Pradesh), it had now changed its stance in accordance with the wishes of people of Telangana, he said.

“Telangana people feel that justice is not done to them in united Andhra Pradesh. They feel the assurances and agreements made for protecting their interests were not implemented. So, after much deliberations, we decided to support separate Telangana cause.”

CPI supported the demand for separate Telangana with Hyderabad as its capital, he asserted.

Though the CPI supported separate Telangana, it was not against the people of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, Bardhan said.

The public meeting had been organised to mark the conclusion of tours by party leaders and workers in Telangana region.
