Chicago Telangana Nite 2011

Chicago Telangana Association (CHITA) celebrated Telangana Nite 2011 – an annual cultural event, on Saturday May 14th at Lemont Temple Auditorium in Chicago. The event showcased Telangana culture to Telugu people living abroad.

Telangana Nite is an annual event organized by CHITA, supported by it’s volunteers and community sponsors. It is an occasion for all Telanganites in Chicago land area to come together and enjoy the cultural programs and sumptuous food, in an environment setting filled with the spirit of Telangana.

This year the event was attended by more than 500 people consisting of various age groups of Men, Women and Children.

The Cultural fest started with ‘Jyothi Prajwalana’, the lamp lighting ceremony, paying respects to Lord Ganesha and The Telangana Talli (The Mother of Telangana). Cultural programs began with several songs and dances throughout. Children of various age groups were very enthused to take part in the event with their performances, cheered by the full house throughout the night.

Notable community artists from Chicago land area, Ravi Tokala, Raj Kalvakota and Praveen Jaligama took charge of entertaining the audience with their superb performances, as the crowd joined them to the beat, dancing both on the stage and inside the auditorium. The songs included the most famous ones from Dr. Andhesri’s “Jaya Jaya He Telangana” and Gaddar’s “Podusthunna Poddumeeda Nadusthunna Kaalama”. The entire crowd was seen clapping and singing to the tunes with lots of fun and jubilation.

Cultural program participants were recognized with a certificate accompanied by a memento and children were rewarded with prizes.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks from CHITA organizing committee, praising all attendees for their whole hearted participation at the celebration. All the volunteers were thanked for their generous support in making the event a grand success.
