In Telangana, both the Congress and the BJP accuse the BRS Party of being the B-Team of the other. However, keenly observing the political developments in Telangana over the last five years reveals an evident tacit understanding between both national parties.
There is a clear pattern of unholy nexus between the Congress and the BJP in Telangana. Here are some instances:
- Despite Chief Minister KCR’s repeated appeals to the center over ten years for crucial infrastructure projects, such as elevated corridors, road widening, flyovers, and metro train expansion, no progress was made. Surprisingly, these projects were swiftly approved by the same BJP government upon the request from the new Congress government in Telangana.
- The Telangana governor rejected MLC nominations of the BRS candidates, citing the candidates’ political background as the reason. However, the same governor accepted the MLC nominations of Congress candidates despite their political background.
- The central government imposed stringent financial restrictions on the KCR-led government, denying additional loans beyond the FRBM limits. Nevertheless, the union BJP government cooperated with the Congress government by sanctioning an additional Rs. 9,000 crores beyond the FRBM limit.
- The Congress party helped the BJP candidate win in the Huzurabad bypoll, where the Congress nominee polled just 3,000 votes.
- In the Munugode bypoll, a Congress MP supported the candidature of the BJP nominee.
- The Congress candidate didn’t put up a strong fight in the Dubbak bypoll, ensuring the victory of the BJP candidate.
- A Congress leader from Karimnagar left his own segment and contested in a neighboring segment in the 2023 assembly elections to indirectly help the BJP candidate. Now, the same leader is creating political tensions to indirectly benefit the Karimnagar BJP candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
- In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party fielded dummy candidates in Nizamabad and Karimnagar segments to ensure the victory of the BJP nominees.
- In Manikonda municipality, the Congress and the BJP have been sharing power since 2020. Recently, in municipalities like Nalgonda, Bhongir, and several others, both the Congress and the BJP colluded to bring down the BRS to share the chairman and vice-chairman posts.
- While many BJP-ruled states are opting out of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the Revanth Reddy-led government has rejoined the scheme, indicating his support for the BJP.
