Pochampally in Telangana is the world’s best tourism village.

 

The Telangana state has earned another international fame. Bhodhan Pochampally village in Yadadri Bhongir district has been selected as world best tourism village by the UN World Tourism Organisation. Of the three villages that the Indian Government has nominated _ one each from Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya and Telangana- Pochampally was chosen for the Award. This village is predominantly inhabited by weavers who are known for their weaving skills, unique styles and designs.

Telangana IT minister KTR, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the villagers for their hard work and keeping up tradition.
The award will be presented to the state government representatives at the 24th world conference of the UN World Tourism Organisation on December 2 to be held at Madrid in Spain.

Since the formation of separate Telangana, the state government has been encouraging the handlooms and weavers community in a big way. Minister Mr K T Rama Rao was elated at the international recognition to Bhodhan Pochampally village, which he described as another feather in the cap of vibrant Telangana.
