CPI Launches Direct Agitation

In a move that could change the dynamics of the Telangana movement, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has launched direct agitation demanding the immediate tabling of Telangana bill in Parliament.

CPI, which is supporting the Telangana statehood movement from past 2 years has a strong cadre base in Nalgonda, Khammam and Karimanagar districts. Its cadre are renowned for their discipline, courage and commitment. As Telangana region is gearing up for a massive movement in the coming months, the participation of CPI will add a lot of strength to the Telangana movement.

CPI conducted “Collectorate Muttadi” on Jan 24th in front of district collector offices in all Telangana districts. The party state secretary K. Narayana addressed a well attended “Telangana Poru Keka” meeting at Karimnagar and announced that CPI would not stop this struggle until a bill is moved in the Parliament. CPI legislature party leader and MLA Gunda Mallesh also participated in the sit-ins.

Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, Ex-MP and the deputy general secretary of CPI attended a dharna held in front of the Nalgonda collector office. He said that Congress was the main culprit behind the current stalemate.

Srinivas Reddy, secretary general of Indian Journalists Union (IJU),  Yadagiri Rao, Munugode MLA and Palla Venkat Reddy, Ex- MLA also participated in this dharna.

In Khammam, the CPI cadres painted the town red with a flag march followed by a dharna in front of the district collectorate. Puvvada Nageshwara Rao, MLC, demanded immediate tabling of the statehood bill in parliament.

Telangana people,  organizations, and intellectuals who have reservations about joining hands with TRS will now have an option of working with CPI. Whichever way you look at it, the entry of CPI into the agitation will be a big boost to the Telangana movement.
