The state government has decided to organise Osmania University’s centenary celebrations on a grand scale next year.
“Osmania University will complete 100 years in 2017. It has a rich legacy and many of its alumni are placed in prestigious positions all over the world. We should celebrate the centenary of OU on a grand scale and strive to revive its glory,” Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said at a meeting held here on Sunday.
The CM asked officials to form a committee with officials and university alumni from various fields and give a report on the requirements for conducting the celebrations. He also wanted old students of the university from all parts of the world and fields to be a part of the celebrations.
A conference of NRIs would be held as part of the celebrations, he said and announced that a full-time vice-chancellor for the university would be appointed soon. Senior TRS leader and OU alumni K Keshava Rao, chief secretary Rajiv Sarma, principal secretary (education) Ranjeev R Acharya were among those who participated in the meeting.
