Noted Telangana intellectual and former member of the Planning Commission, Prof Ch. Hanumantha Rao, has been appointed Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad.
Prof Rao has written several essays about Telangana statehood and published a book titled “Regional Disparities, Smaller States and Statehood for Telangana”.
Prof Hanumantha Rao was born in 1929 in Karimnagar district, Rao did his PhD in economics at the University of Delhi and has also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Chicago during 1966-67.
Prof. Hanumantha Rao was also awarded Padma Bhushan in 2004.
