All Lakes in Hyderabad Will be Restored: KT Rama Rao

All lakes in Hyderabad will be restored to its past glory and an undertaking by the government to take up development works at Hussainsagar Lake at a cost of Rs 58 crore, proves the State government’s commitment towards lakes, said IT Minister KT Rama Rao.

The minister on Wednesday inspected the trunk sewer laying works at Hussiansagar Lake. The trunk sewer is laid by the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) for diversion of sewage entering into the lake from the Kukatpally nala.

The sewer has a discharge capacity of 570 million litres per day. As the sewage from Kukatpally nala will be directed into the outlet at Mariott Hotel, the works were taken up across Ranjigunj main road earlier.

“While the entire length of trunk sewer is 2.8 kilometers, works upto two kilometers has been completed. The remaining project will be completed in the next two months. By summer, works relating to even purification of Hussiansagar will be taken up. Not just cleaning the lake, we will ensure that it never gets contaminated again,” said KT Rama Rao after inspecting the works.

KTR also said that the government was planning to develop Gandipet Lake. He said that a walking and cycling track will soon be laid around the lake.
