Nalgonda chosen destination for three thermal projects

Nalgonda district has been finally chosen as the destination for Telangana State’s upcoming thermal power projects with TSGenco submitting Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of three projects to the government.

The Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TSGenco) will set up projects with capacities up to 6,800 MW in the district’s Damarcherla mandal, as directed by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao during his aerial survey in the district.

The Chairman and Managing Director of TSGenco, D. Prabhakara Rao, on Wednesday, submitted to government, the detailed project reports (DPRs) of the three projects to be set up at two locations of the mandal. During his visit, the Chief Minister had directed the officials to submit the DPRs by January 8. BHEL will be the implementing agency for the projects to be completed in three years from now.

Power Finance Corporation and Rural Electrification Corporation together will lend up to Rs. 36,000 crore for the projects, and the balance will be infused as equity by the Telangana government. These will be apart from the 1,080 MW to be set up at Manuguru of Khammam district, and 800 MW at Kothagudem — for which Letter of Intent has already been issued to BHEL.

Water for the projects will be allocated from the Krishna river, and coal from Singareni. “The district offered advantage owing to the availability of railway track for coal transportation. We have followed KCR’s direction and conducted a Digital GPS survey to zero in on two locations,” Mr. Prabhakara Rao informed.
