Fresh from her victory in the prestigious WTA doubles final in Singapore, Sania Mirza says she is delighted to keep winning especially after being named the Brand Ambassador of Telangana.

“Honestly, I felt honoured when Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao called for a meeting to announce it. It is always a nice feeling when the Head of the State is one of the first to send a congratulatory message,” said Sania at her academy in Murtuzaguda near Chilkur on Tuesday.

“These are the kind of things any athlete looks for and they are big motivators,” she added. “I feel great when people ask me about my Brand Ambassador status and I am glad by winning major titles I am contributing to promoting the image of my newly-formed State,” the two-time Grand Slam winner said.

“The week before I left for WTA, the Chief Minister said he would have meeting soon. I will be glad to discuss a few things which should help our cause,” Sania said. The premier tennis player also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interest for sports and the athletes.

“It is a great feeling when the Prime Minister tweets about your success. They are very encouraging gestures. The two times I met him, he was very supportive and showed genuine concern for the welfare of the athletes. When he observed that the whole nation rejoices when athletes like me sweat it out and bring laurels, I was honestly thrilled,” Sania remarked. “The best part is because of the social networking sites, you can connect directly with anyone,” she concluded.
