Telengana Can be Hub for Defence Industry: Governor

A three-day global conference showcasing Telangana State as an investment hub in defence and aerospace engineering was formally inaugurated by Governor ESL Narasihmhan here on Sunday.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the Second Defence and Aerospace India conference, the governor said there is a need to concentrate on defence and aerospace industry as it is a matter of our national security. “In defence, we see the future of the country. I am very happy that India is today capable of meeting the growing demands of these industries and I hope the country to go forward in the same direction,” he added.

“The ease of doing business in Telangana has been improved immensely in the last one year. Today, we have the right skill, competence and determination. Indigenisation is an important component of doing business and the State is confident that the growth of this sector is bound to happen,” the governor added.

Minister for Industries Jupally Krishna Rao said the 3-day global conclave organised by Kenes Exhibitions and Telangana government is the right platform for the growth of the defence & aerospace sector in the State. “With the new Defence Policy to be released by the State government soon, based on the deliberations of the conclave, it would give right impetus to the industry,” he added.

MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy advised organisers to host the event in another country so that companies get a bigger platform to showcase their products.

“If defence and aerospace industry doesn’t contribute, then Make In India will be incomplete. Investments should be made in research and development to bring in more innovations,” V K Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog said.
