Telangana to plan exclusive policy for NRIs

The Telangana government is planning to evolve an exclusive policy for NRIs (non resident Indians) to take care of a variety of the problems they face abroad.

Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao had asked the officials of his Ministry to study such policies prepared by Kerala and Punjab to pick some key elements.

“The Minister will convene a meeting this week with NRI groups and the organisations that are working with NRIs in the Gulf. Officials of the Labour and other relevant departments will take part in the conference,” a Government statement said here on Saturday.

The policy will keep tabs on the brokers and agents that often land the workers in trouble in the Gulf countries. “It will also seek to create a mechanism to help accident victims,” it said.

“After studying the policies in other States and factoring in the suggestions from stakeholders, we will prepare the policy,” it said.
