SAIL in talks with Telangana government for steel plant

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is holding discussions with the Telangana government for setting up a steel plant on the borders of Warangal and Khammam district.

Chief minister, K Chandrasekhara Rao, is stated to have disclosed this at a meeting of officials held by him on Tuesday to discuss formulating of an industrial policy suitable for Telangana. The proposed steel plant involves an investment of Rs 30,000 crore.

According to an official press release, Rao also asked the officials to come out with a single-window system through which entrepreneurs would be able to get all necessary permissions within a fortnight of submitting their applications.

He wanted the officials to hold meeting with the representatives of FAPCCI, FICCI and CII and take their suggestions before finalising the state’s industrial policy.

Stating that his government’s aim was to develop Warangal as an industrial hub, the chief minister sought establishment of a Hyderabad-Warangal industrial corridor.
