Rs 2 L Insurance Cover for Market Yard Staff

All the staff working at market yards in the state including security guards, hamalis, women workers and others would get Rs 2 lakh insurance from July.

The insurance amount would be increased to Rs 5 lakh from next year. Irrigation and marketing minister T Harish Rao announced this on Wednesday. He said that health check up would be conducted for workers once in every six months.

He said the state government would release Rs 25 crore for providing basic amenities at all market yards in the state. At a review with market committee secretaries and hamalis here, the minister directed the officials to construct compound walls to market yards.

For the first time, the minister also invited 350 hamalis and other workers for the review meeting and discussed their problems.

Harish Rao also announced scholarships to girl children of women hamalis working in market yards. He said Rs 2,000 would be given to Intermediate students, Rs 3,000 for degree and Rs 5,000 for those pursuing PG courses.

The government would also give financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for those taking Group-1 mains and Rs 1 lakh to those girls of women hamalis preparing for Civils.

Harish Rao also hinted that the salary of security guards would be increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 13,000. This would be announced officially after the clearance from the finance department, the minister said.

Harish Rao also directed the officials to collect the mobile numbers of farmers in each market yard and send bulk SMSes to them about the prevailing prices. So that the farmer would come to the yard and sell his produce when he was getting good price.
