Rs. 1,000 cr. Sought under Central scheme

Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao said that Rs.1,000 crore investments have been sought for various schemes under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY) and this would be forwarded to the Union government.

Under this scheme, 60 per cent of the amount would be released as grant by Union government, followed by 30 per cent loan by the World Bank and 10 per cent contribution by the department.

The meeting of the DDUGJY was held here on Monday presided over by Lok Sabha members K. Prabhakar Reddy (Medak) and B.B. Patil (Zaheerabad) and attended by Mr. Harish Rao, Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy and other legislators.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Harish Rao said that Rs. 70 crore was proposed under Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) aimed at improving power supply systems at urban areas covering 10 towns in the district.

“The amount will be used for strengthening power supply system including erecting polls, establishment of new sub-stations and transformers. This was necessary to assure quality power supply as promised by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. We will supply nine-hour to farming sector during day time from next year,” said Mr. Harish Rao said, adding that a total of Rs. 91,500 would be invested in the power sector for increasing power production, solar power and improving power supply system.

Mr. Harish Rao said that the government had spent about Rs.1,100 for purchase of power during last year.
